Chris Carpenter & KC Burdette Highlight 'Christmas In July' Night at the Valley

A hot and sweltering night at Ohio Valley Speedway would welcome a very enthusiastic and festive crowd as it was the annual Toys for Tots ‘Christmas in July’ event. A pit full of race cars would put on a fantastic night of racing that would see several lead changes, last lap passes and more to keep fans entertained throughout. Picking up trips to the KMA Auto Victory Lane were Chris Carpenter, KC Burdette (twice), Pat Garrett, Randy Wise, Tom Sigler, Blake Tasker and Bryson Long.

In one of the best races of the year, the Las Trancas Super Lates would take the green flag 18 cars strong. Current point leader Harold Redman Jr. would vault from his front row starting spot and settle into a blistering pace with Chris Carpenter in tow. After a few mid-race cautions Redman Jr. would continue to run a great race working around lapped traffic to near perfection with Carpenter still lurking in the runner-up position. With the race entering its conclusion Carpenter would now start to increase the pressure on the race long leader and as the duo would come under flagman Matt Amick’s white flag it was setting up to be a highlight finish. As the two talented wheelmen dragged down the backstretch heading towards the checkers, Carpenter would perform a picture perfect slide job heading into turn 3 to grab his first lead of the event. Redman would criss cross Carpenter exiting turn 4 but it was not enough as Carpenter edged Redman at the line to secure his 3rd feature win of the season in front of the appreciative crowd. Following Carpenter and Redman Jr. across the line was another fine run by Josh Tonkin, Jeremy Blake and Rod Evans.

A stout 22 car Polymer Services UMP Modified feature event once again see Parkersburg, WV’s KC Burdette overtake early leader Kenny Johnson to snare his fifth straight win. While Burdette would roll to another win, a war would wage behind the leader as Johnson, the Bonds and Cole Perine would slug it out for the races duration. At the line though it was Burdette besting Johnson, Kyle Bond, Cole Perine and Larry Bond. In the makeup feature from June 10th it was Burdette finishing ahead of Kenny Johnson, Cole Perine, Chad Roush and Joe Hamon.

It was the ‘Marshall’ Pat Garrett scoring the Pike Street Lanes Sportmod main event in a very entertaining event. A great two car race between early leader Cruz Vandall and Garrett would excite the crowd as Vandall worked the well-manicured racing surface’s high line while Garrett would catfish around the bottom. Lap after lap the duo went at it with Vandall holding the slight edge when disaster would strike the leader as a tangle with lap traffic would end his fine run. With Garrett now at the point the veteran would hold off a hard charging Sonny Leek to secure his first win of the season. Following Garrett and Leek, was Ron Pickens, Ryan Yates and Steven Dotson.

In the Bill’s Auto Salvage SCDRA 4 Cylinder division, disaster would strike the front row on the opening lap as the 22 of Jacob McDaniel and the c19 of Patrick Willbarger would crash on the frontstretch at the drop of the races green flag. With the front row now eliminated from competition it would be Randy Wise blasting off the front row and setting sail to his first win of the season. Following Wise to the payout window was Jamie Harper, Denzil Barker, Josh Ayers and Matt Schofield.

The neighboring EDGE Hotmods from Tyler County Speedway would make a rare appearance to the Valley. A great three car battle would ensue as Zack Robinson, Tom Sigler and a charging Steve Magyar would put on a great show. Robinson would set the early pace with Sigler working high and low around the speedway while Magyar was starting his climb from the tail. After hounding Robinson for several laps, Sigler would make his winning move a classic as the likeable driver of the 19A would park it in the KMA Auto Victory Lane. Following Sigler was ‘Rooster Nation’ Zack Robinson, Steve Magyar, Allen Clark and Kevin Dotson.

A huge 24 car field of Mike’s Auto Body WRA Mini Wedges would converge at the Valley to kick off the evenings action. In the Young Gun division it was Déjà vu as Bryson Long would continue his stranglehold on the KMA Auto Victory Lane and pick up his eighth win of the season ahead of Karson Burdette and Easton Mayle. A strong field of 14 Veteran WRA Mini Wedges would take the Way Floor Coverings Green Flag with Blake Tasker holding off the quality field and pick up his first win of the season. Following Tasker to the line was Colin Knox and Avie Sprouse.

Be sure to join us next Friday Night, July 29th for one of the Valley’s most beloved and biggest races of the season as we pay tribute to a true friend of racing and the Valley’s #1 fan with the 4th Annual Keith Barker Memorial.
